Thursday Oct. 29

This will be our last post on Blogger. Starting Monday we will post our blog on the Google Classroom page. 

Today we had a very busy day.

McLean/Watterson had their e-library orientation. All students have received a bookmark with instructions on how to request a book from the library. There are also instructions below. 







Neily's class had music. While they were in music McLean/Watterson had a teamwork challenge with cups, string and elastics. Ask your child what the challenge was. 

This afternoon we wrote good copies of our leaf poems for the Student Led Learning Walk next week. 

We ended with drawing creepy haunted houses based on a description Mrs. McLean read. We reviewed how good readers create pictures in their heads. We also discussed how good word choice enhance the writing.

Wednesday Oct. 28

Today was a busy day: 

- Today Mr. Neily's class had a library orientation for virtual book exchanges

- In the morning, we practiced counting numbers over 100 to 1000.  We worked on our number recognition and skip counting skills. 

- In the afternoon we worked on a new type of poem. A Cinquain - we had to integrate the vocabulary words we have been learning (strong verbs and triple scoop adjectives)

- We also practiced our song again

Reminders:

- No School on Friday - PD Day

- Tomorrow you can wear a costume

                - no weapons

                - no masks that cover your whole face

                - you still need to wear your protective face mask

- Tomorrow is Fun Snack

- Full instructions on how to search books in the e-library will be posted to our Google Classroom tomorrow once Ms. McLean's class has attended the e-library orientation.

Today we…

 

We took some visual notes on moose. – NR

We finally had a complicated brain teaser in math. – KG

Today was amazing because I liked the circuit in gym. – CW

Today we looked for triple scoop words. For example, depressed for “sad.” – GM

It was amazing, fabulous, and incredible. – AP & RV

We did Daily 5, it was absolutely magnificent. – VV

We started practicing our song. – OR

Fun snack is on Thursday, Oct.29. Please order through Healthy Hunger for future orders.

Students are welcome to wear their costumes on Thursday, Oct.29 – no weapons or full masks please. It is still a full day of school!

Monday




Today we...
We are learning a new song - With My Own Two Hands - CH
In math, we worked on problem solving using T-charts. - VV
We went to gym and did a circuit of different stations for throwing. - OR
Mrs.Watterson's class went to music and we watched an old Mickey Mouse from the 1920's and we had to add the sound to it. - JW
Mr.Neily's class played the director and 4 actors game. - AU



We thought of some triple scoop words for writing, words that are better than "nice" or "mad."CW

October 23

Today we got to watch our first peace assembly of the year. It was a virtual peace assembly on Google Meet. We really enjoyed watching the work of the other grade 3 and 4's in Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Huebner's class.

We began some work on animal life cycles by creating sketchnotes as we watched a video on beavers. We learned what habitat and appearance mean. 

We began our day with some Daily 5 because we haven't had much this week and we also had a Gratitude Circle.

 Our day in our words........


The grade 3's continued with SLA work.   Today focused on Literacy

The gr. 4's continued with their own assessments.   We continued with assessing Math.

Mr. Neily's class had music today.   We did a Halloween Just Dance.   We also played some fun games.  One game was "who's doing the actions." 

Ms. McLean's class.  We played a game it was an acting game.    There were director and quirks.  

After lunch students were given time to finish SLA's and Math assessments.

During PE the class played ultimate rock, paper, scissors

After PE we watched short video on funny animals as a reward for our hard work.

To end the day we did some leaf art involving patterns and lines.


Reminders.......

Tomorrow if Friday.  It is a half day.

Remember to bring snow pants especially if you like to play and roll in the snow.

Gym was really fun today because we played football. - NR

At gym we played a fun game where we passed the balls to each other. BH

At the end of the day, Mr.Neily read The Wild Robot and we listened. - SE

I enjoyed gym - we were passing the footballs and then got to rush to the back of the line. - AD

Today in the gym, we sprinted around the black lines. - GM

Today, near the end of the day, we got a book and had to find as many strong verbs as we could find. NJR

Today Ms.McLean/Mrs.Watterson's class had music and listened to something by a French composer. - SD

Today in gym we played this under throw football game. - LST

Today was magnificent because we learnt more about strong verbs. - SL

Our class read books with lots of strong verbs. - RF

We watched a cool video about social distancing, hand washing and mask wearing. - KG

 Our day in our words........


Mr. Neily's class quietly walked to the awesome music class.  We played the musical xylophone.  CP

Today we learned about strong verbs and it was wonderful.   We jumped for joy!   EL

In PE we were playing passing the football in teams.   LS/AP

In daily 5 we did read to a buddy as well and writing and reading.   VV

We learned that doe mean female deer.   ZV

Ms. McLean's class went to the hub.  VV

During a bathroom break we finished the last  5 min of a bear video.   We learned lots. NR

October 14th, 2020

 Our day.....


Today was a full day as usual.   We started our day with 2 rounds of daily 5.   One round of writing and one round of reading.

We did a mini lesson on periods and when to best use them.   

In math we continued our work with T Tables to help solve pattern problems.   

After lunch we did a words their way assessment to help our teachers know what spelling instruction is needed.

After PE we continued building our descriptive language by using our senses to describe a colour.


Reminders.....

- Remember to dress for the weather.

- BRING IN INDOOR SHOES.

In math this morning, we learnt about patterns. - KG

We did t-charts with patterns - JR

We did an I-PICK lesson about how to pick a good fit book. - AM

In PE, we played a football game and had to pass a ball to the cones when he blew the whistle. - SE

Today we did an activity about colours - we had to write things that matched up to that color. - GM

Today was fun because we did a mini-writing lesson on writing goal and colours - NJR

We did daily 5. - JR


Challenge: 

What do you think of when you see these colours - redgreenyellowblueorange, black, purple and whiteList as many things as you can that are that color, including animals, insects, fruits, vegetables and objects.

 Our day in our words....

We started learning about animal life cycles.   We watched a video that connected bears and salmon.  NR

Mr. Neily's class did music and Ms. Watterson's class learned about animal life cycles.   CP

In math we looked at a hundreds chart.   We skip counted using various numbers.   We had to find patterns in the skip counting.   JW

In PE we played soccer.   

In the afternoon we did Math.   OR

We ended the day with a gratitude circle.

No School Friday or Monday.   Classes resume Tuesday, October 13th.

 Our day in our words....

- Our class at the end of the day did a sketch of a gosling related to our book "The Wild Robot".  LE

- We wrote a prediction about what we thought Roz's house might look like after the beavers built it. SL

- Today we finished up our Otter art.  NR

- In the morning we did daily 5.  We did two rounds and some of us did partner reading 2m apart in the learning commons.   OR

- After gym during our washroom break we watched a video of some baby goslings.   GM

- This morning we did Math.   We did a compare and contrast of patterns that we created.  AP


Reminders......

- No school Friday it is a PD day.    Thursday is a regular full day.

- Eventually we will be moving the blog to Google Classroom.   CH

Today we...

We did art - made the otters from the story The Wild Robot - EL

Today we did 2 rounds of daily 5 - NR

When I got to school I thought today was going to be a good day, but it was a great day because we got to do art and gym. - VV

Both classes got to read with Mrs.Kinsman. It was called "Ron's Big Mission." - CP

For the first time, we did art. - SP

This day was great. - CW

The day was magnificent! - SL

We got to choose if we wanted to read with a buddy. - CH


Challenge Question: How does an opossum make that smell of a "dead animal"?

We did the Terry Fox Run and it was fun.   CW

At 11am we did our gratitude circle.   SE

This day was excellent!   JP

One of the things that I liked that we did today was that I got to run with my friends and we did the gratitude circle.   AD

Gratitude circle was fun.  AM

I was running from the  grade 1/2's.   AP

My brother and I ran together at the Terry Fox Run.   FF

During the run I had quest to find letters on the teachers masks.  It spelled Terry Fox.   AU

Me and my sister ran together at the Terry Fox Run.  JW

Snack was outside.  CW

Before the Terry Fox Run we read a story called "Terry Fox and Me."  SD

 Today we continued working on our Maps of Canada - we added some color and finished labeling. 

In math we practiced identifying pattern rules and extending increasing number patterns. 

We watched a Terry Fox video and discussed his legacy. 

Mr. Neily's class had music and Ms. McLean's class did some reading and team building. 


Reminders:

- Terry Fox run is tomorrow - wear comfortable running shoes and dress for the weather
